Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is the best of the year

For a company like Sony the tablet market is a tough place to operate. Apple knocked it out of the park at first attempt with the original iPad and the truth is companies have never quite caught up.

In a world where the iPad has the guarantee of market cache and consumer backing, and companies like Samsung can deliver their own quality efforts with a seemingly bottomless pit of resources, it is hard for Sony to stay in the game.

The company has certainly delivered quality slates, such as the current Xperia Z2 Tablet. That device got a bit of recognition this week as it was named the "Tablet of the Year" by EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association). An organization that is made up of 50 high interest magazines around 20 European nations, EISA has been handing out industry awards for over thirty years.

The judges liked that the Xperia Z2 Tablet is thin and light (6.4 mm thick and 426 g) while they also commended the waterproof feature of the slate. In fact, EISA seems to be a fan of Sony in general as the Japanese company also won awards for Professional Compact System Camera, Compact Camera, Camcorder, 4K Ultra HD TV, and Digital Source of the year.

As for being the best tablet, the Xperia Z2 is indeed a very good slate, good looking and a solid performer. Of course, we would put the clean and premium design of the iPad Air and its quick performance at the top of the pile, while Samsung's Galaxy Tab S also deserves a mention. We would also have to point towards slates like the Nexus 7, the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX, and some LG efforts.

However, in terms of the tablet market, it is very close at the high end and what is termed the best could just come down to personal preference.
