Warning: Google Maps will say now you're going to be late

There are few things more frustrating than rushing somewhere only to find it's shut.

Now, Google will tell you not to bother. The search giant's Maps app has introduced a new feature that will notify users when their destination is closed, or will be closed by the time they get there. There's one catch: The feature appears to apply only to Google's Android app at present.

The app's update log revealed the new feature on Monday, saying a user would "receive a warning when you are about to navigate to a place that is closed at time of arrival".

The same update does not appear in the log for Google's iOS Maps app, which last received an update last week, although a change could be coming soon.

When a user enters a destination, they will receive a message saying "Your destination may be closed by the time you arrive", and can cancel or proceed to navigation.
